After the game, Roethlisberger confirmed that his nose was broken, saying "a big arm got in and hit me and broke it."
The play happened on a third-down incompletion. Roethlisberger spent the ensuing Ravens possession on the bench, holding a towel over the nose while trainers attended to him. He returned to the field when the Steelers got the ball back, though his nose was badly swollen.
"I had a couple broken noses," NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth, an ex-NFL player, said. "But I never had one where my nose was turned sideways like that one."
Roethlisberger entered Sunday already hobbled, courtesy of a foot injury he sustained in Week 12 at Buffalo. The Steelers said that injury was a sprain, but a report out of Pittsburgh earlier in the week indicated Roethlisberger had actually suffered a break.
