Jonathan Duhamel Wins World Series of Poker Main Event

Filed under:

Jonathan Duhamel became the first Canadian to win the World Series of Poker Monday night. As a result, the Quebec native won $8.9 million in prize money.

"This means so much to me, I'm the happiest guy on the earth right now," said Duhamel. "I am very happy to be the first Canadian. It's an honor for me and it's great for Canada."

Afterwards, Duhamel took to his Twitter account: "WON THE BRACELET!!! Great match with Racener, amazing opponent! Thanks to all in Canada & around the world for all the support!"

Duhamel went head-to-head with John Racener, who took home $5,545,955. Duhamel's exact winnings come to $8,944,310. The final duo lasted over an hour-and-a-half together before Racener went all-in with a suited K-8 and lost. Duhamel entered heads-up play with six times as many chips as Racener, allowing him to play with an edge.
