PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Portland Timbers defender Kevin Goldthwaite will miss the rest of the season because of ruptured ligaments in his left knee.
Goldthwaite hurt his knee in the expansion Timbers' 1-0 victory over the Chicago Fire on Saturday. It was Portland's first road win.
The 28-year-old veteran of six seasons in Major League Soccer underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed ruptured anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments.
In addition to the Timbers, Goldthwaite has played for the San Jose Earthquakes, the New York Red Bulls and the Houston Dynamo.
