When tasked with throwing an inbounds pass virtually the length of the floor, the biggest obstacle -- it would seem -- would be getting the passer a clean look. Which is why -- given the Grant Hill to Christian Laettner connection which lifted Duke to the Final Four over Kentucky in 1992-- it's somewhat stunning when teams allow the inbounder a free shot.
Well, in Washington state, Orting High School's Cody Cowen made Charles Wright High pay. With one second remaining and his team trailing by three, Cowen found Isaac Lewis -- who was being double teamed -- about 25 feet from the basket.
The pass and catch is really only half the battle, though, as Lewis had to come down cleanly, gather himself, and hit the shot. He was able to do all of those things, even though his "shot" was more of a line drive throw toward the rim.
The prayer lifted Orting to the district playoffs, something that seems somewhat important.
