No. 1, anyone? Wild weekend leaves race for poll's top spot wide open

The No. 1 spot in the USA TODAY/ESPN coaches poll is up for grabs.

And so far this week, it appears no team wants to stake a claim for the top spot after three of four teams that received first-place votes last week have gone down.

Let's review:

-- After being voted the No. 1 team on Monday, Kansas promptly lost in blowout fashion on the road at Kansas State that very night.

-- On Saturday, No. 2 Texas tried to rally from a late, 11-point deficit at Nebraska. The Longhorns tied the game in the closing minute, but couldn't get over the hump and eventually lost 70-67.

-- Pittsburgh was one of four teams getting No. 1 votes in last week's poll. But in a trip to Madison Square Garden Saturday, the Panthers found out just how tough St. John's can be. The Red Storm edged the Panthers 60-59 and took Pitt out of the conversation for No. 1.

With these three losses, it's now up to Ohio State. The Buckeyes can certainly climb back to No. 1 -- but first they have to take care of No. 11 Purdue on the road on Sunday.

Should Ohio State fall to the Boilermakers, who does that leave left for No. 1?

Can one of those four teams still take over the top spot even with a loss this week? Or could No. 5 Duke -- or even No. 6 San Diego State -- make the major jump to No. 1?

We'll find out for sure on Monday, but we want to know what you think. Let us know who you think should be No. 1 in the comments below.
