FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) Arkansas defensive end Jake Bequette and linebacker Jerry Franklin are being considered for the 2011 Bednarik Award, which recognizes the nation's top defensive player.
Bequette was named second-team All-Southeastern Conference at the end of the 2010 season. He also is one of 42 players on the 2011 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List.
Franklin led the team and ranked 10th in the SEC with a career-high 100 tackles last year, becoming just the second Razorback since 1960 to lead the team in tackles three straight seasons.
Semifinalists for the Bednarik Awards will be announced Oct. 31 and the three finalists will be unveiled Nov. 21.
The winner will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 8.
