Illinois football player arrested on battery

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) A University of Illinois football player has been jailed on $100,000 bond after an arrest for aggravated battery.

Champaign police say 20-year-old defensive tackle Chris Jones was arrested early Sunday. The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports that police responded to a report of a battery in Champaign.

Jones is being held at Champaign County Jail. It was immediately unclear if he has an attorney.

Illinois Football Coach Ron Zook tells the newspaper he is investigating the situation. He declined to comment further.
