Frustrated Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton still has not spoken to third-base coach Dave Anderson, and has no regrets ridiculing Anderson's decision to send him home Tuesday, which resulted in a broken bone in his right arm.
"Dumb," Hamilton said Wednesday morning, speaking to news reporters. "People are going to blame who they want to blame. I threw him under the bus by telling the truth about what happened."
Hamilton, used as the DH for the first time this season, was sent home from third base when Anderson noticed that no one was covering home plate on Adrian Beltre's pop-up in foul territory. He slid head-first and broke his humerus bone. He'll be out about two months.
"He's got a right to feel what he feels,'' Rangers manager Ron Washington says, "but I'm certainly not going to blame David. I think Josh has to live with what he said.
"We're not going to stop playing the game the way we play it. You think Dave is the only one that's happened to? Hell no. It's part of the game. We're not going to make them [the players] little wimps. We lost one. We're not going to go hide in a hole."
Anderson says he won't change his aggressive style of coaching simply because of Hamilton's injury, and Hamilton won't change his style either.
"I get hurt making plays and playing the game of baseball," Hamilton said. "Maybe I should be a wimp. It's like kicking a dead horse. How else would I play?"
Said Anderson: "Injuries are part of the game, but part of the game also is being aggressive. The issue is he got hurt. If he doesn't get hurt, we're not spending a lot of time talking about it."
