WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP)?Matt Painter is back at Purdue.
The coach returned to campus on Thursday, one day after the Boilermakers kept him as the men?s basketball coach following a bidding battle with Missouri. The school said his new eight-year deal will keep him in West Lafayette through the 2018-19 season and pays him a guaranteed $2.3 million per year, with additional incentives based on academic and athletic performance.
Painter says he had discussions with Missouri, but would not say whether he was officially offered the job. Missouri is trying to replace Mike Anderson, who left for Arkansas.
The 40-year-old Painter has been selected the Big Ten?s coach of the year three times.
Boilermakers forward Robbie Hummel called Painter ?the face of Purdue basketball? and was happy his coach chose to return to his alma mater.
