Oklahoma St. upsets Tennessee for softball super regional trip

Oklahoma State's softball team has advanced to an NCAA super regional with a 6-5 victory over Tennessee.

The Cowgirls beat the Lady Vols Sunday in a game at Knoxville, Tenn. Oklahoma State faces Houston next weekend.

OSU (40-17) survived a late rally by Tennessee. Left fielder Tamara Brown threw out the potential game-tying run at the plate in the seventh inning.

Freshman Tarah Ettinger contributed to the winning effort with a bases-loaded double in the sixth.

Oklahoma State will host a best-of-three super-regional series with Houston, with games Friday and Saturday. A Sunday game will be played if needed. The winner advances to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.

Tulsa clips Oklahoma

Samantha Cobb doubled home the second run for Tulsa in the ninth inning, providing the winning margin in an NCAA softball regional game with Oklahoma that forced the teams to play again.

Oklahoma got one run across in the bottom of the ninth Sunday but was shut down by Tulsa reliever Jordan Kinard (11-7), who got the victory.

Oklahoma Keilani Ricketts (27-13) hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and Tulsa couldn't answer until the fifth, when it pushed two runs across. Ricketts took the loss for 8 2/3 innings of work.

The teams were scheduled to play again Sunday, with the winner advancing to a super regional.
