Texans free-agent quarterback Matt Leinart is scheduled to visit Oakland next week, a trip during which he is likely to sign with the Raiders, according to league sources.
ESPN.com's Bill Williamson writes about all things AFC West in his division blog.
The deal, if finalized, would give the Raiders two former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks from USC, and it is expected that Leinart, not former third-round pick Terrelle Pryor, would be Oakland's primary backup to Carson Palmer.
Leinart's signing also would reconnect him with Oakland offensive coordinator Greg Knapp, who coached Leinart in recent seasons with the Houston Texans.
Many around the league believed Pryor had the inside track on the Raiders' backup quarterback job. But a new Raiders front office and coaching staff have targeted changes at the position, sources have said.
