Defense rests in sexual assault trial of OSU's Williams

Prosecutors have charged Williams with rape by instrumentation and sexual battery in connection with the December 2010 party, where the women ? who testified earlier in the week ? alleged he groped them and reached into their pants without their permission. The defense rested Thursday after calling to the witness stand Williams' former teammate Keiton Page, Williams' mother and two people who attended the party.

Williams has pleaded not guilty.

Page described himself as a close friend of Williams, the Stillwater NewsPress (http://bit.ly/O1rjEx) reported Thursday.

"I don't think he's capable of these charges," said Page, who was not at the party. He said he and Williams lived in the same residence hall and often hung out together.

Williams' mother, Alice Williams, testified about raising her children as a single mother in Chicago. She said her son has never been in trouble.

"This is not my son," she said of the charges.

Zack Thomason and Emily Sadler testified they were with Williams in the basement and didn't see anyone sexually assaulted.

"I was generally impressed by all the players," said Thomason who lived in the basement at the time.

During cross examination, Thomason acknowledged that he had been drinking at the party and playing video games.

Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford testified on Williams' behalf Wednesday, saying he believed Williams is innocent.

Despite being suspended in February 2011, Williams, listed as a senior on the Oklahoma State athletics website, still practices with the team and is on the roster.
