Missy Franklin, Michael Phelps headline Monday's swimming

This is the night Franklin, in all likelihood, will win her first individual Olympic medal. And it'll be the first of many.

Wouldn't you have liked a little heads up on Phelps' first? Knew it. You're welcome for this.

Franklin will be competing in the 100-meter backstroke at 7:51 p.m. London time (2:51 p.m. ET), one of her signature events. Franklin's biggest competition will be Australia's Emily Seebohm.

But before we get too ahead of ourselves looking at the night's competition, let's preview the prelims.

Not too many events this morning:

?Women's 200-meter freestyle? Franklin again. Just watch her whenever she's in the pool, and expect a smile from her every minute she's outside of it. Allison Schmitt, who won silver in the 400 free Sunday night, is also a U.S. medal contender here.

?Men's 200-meter butterfly? Phelps is back to medal form after an excellent 100 free relay leg, and look for him to have a strong showing here. It's one of his best events, and let's not forget he's still trying to get that first gold medal of the Games.

?Women's 200-meter individual medley?Ariana Kukors and Caitlin Leverenz will swim for the U.S., but watch out for China's Shiwen Ye, who raised eyebrows with her 400 IM gold medal - and world record - on Saturday.
