Jets plan on implementing more 4-3 looks on D

The New York Jets have used a 3-4 defense for much of the past decade, but because offenses are constantly evolving, the team?s defensive coaches want to go to a 4-3 base because of the spread offenses, especially in the AFC East.

?We might not play a snap of base defense in a division game this year,? Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine told the New York Daily News. ?If it?s five snaps a game, that?s probably a lot.?

Using a 4-3 defense will make for a more aggressive gameplan and puts more of a focus on stopping the pass than the run. In three seasons under head coach Rex Ryan, the Jets finished 18th, seventh and 17th in the league in sacks.

?Driving on the New York streets is very risky, but I drive home every night,? defensive line coach Karl Dunbar said. ?If you?re going to win big, you got to gamble big.?
