Sporting News: Vilma plans suspension injunction

Jonathan Vilma is not giving up his 2012 season without a big fight.

Vilma?s lawyers have informed federal Judge Helen G. Berrigan that Vilma will file an injunction in her court if NFL commissioner Roger Goodell does not rescind Vilma's suspension, New Orleans television station WWL reports.

Goodell suspended Vilma for the coming season for his part in the Saints? bounty scandal. Vilma has denied any involvement.

The veteran linebacker has since walked out of an appeal hearing, calling the process over which Goodell presided a ?sham.?

Vilma has also filed a defamation claim against Goodell in federal court in New Orleans; Berrigan has been assigned to that case. Vilma's lawyers say the injunction is a related matter.

If Berrigan grants the injunction, Vilma could play until the courts resolve the litigation.
