If Chad Ochocinco gets his way, he?ll be suiting up twice next year against the team that just released him.
Two days after the New England Patriots cut ties with Ochocincoafter a dismal 2011 season, Ochocinco?s wish for his next destination is the Miami Dolphins, CBS Sports? Jason La Canfora reported on Saturday. La Canfora cites sources who have been in contact with Ochocinco.
The move would be beneficial on some fronts for both sides. Ochocinco has roots in South Florida, and he attended Miami Beach High School. And for the Dolphins, it would bring some star power to the team, something that owner Stephen Ross has always wanted but usually failed to bring to the organization.
In fact, the Dolphins might be the only fit for Ochocinco. La Canfora talked to people within the organizations of several mentioned possible landing spots ? including the Jaguars,St. Louis Rams, Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens and Oakland Raiders ? and he ?was told no way.? La Canfora breaks down why the Dolphins and Ochocinco could be a perfect match:
He?s been in great shape for several years now since a drop off a whole back. To me he?s worth the risk on a one-year deal, especially for Miami, which isn?t exactly loaded with receivers and offensive weapons.
And this much is for sure ? the Dolphins could learn a thing or two from Ochocinco?s branding and marketing abilities. In that realm, as well as social media, he is nothing short of a genius. He inherently gets it. It?s part of his DNA.
Ochocinco, 34, played in 15 games last year with the Patriots, his only season with the Bill Belichick-coached club. He caught only 15 passes for 276 yards. He only had one catch in the Patriots? 21-17 Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants.
Meanwhile, it looks like Ochocinco got in a workout session Saturday with another controversial receiver looking for a team to play for next season.
