Former Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli Lands at Mississippi

Filed under: Mississippi, Oregon, Pac 10, SECJeremiah Masoli made it official on his website. He is headed to the University of Mississippi.

The former Oregon quarterback, thrown off the Ducks team in June after a pair of arrests earlier this year, made a visit to Oxford this weekend.

"I am very excited about this opportunity and very thankful Ole Miss is giving me this chance," Masoli said on his website.

He said he was offered a walk-on spot by coach Houston Nutt. Despite his transfer status, he will not have to sit out a season because of NCAA rules that allow athletes who have earned their undergraduate degrees to transfer without the one-year penalty.

Masoli said he will report to the team for conditioning starting on Wednesday. Ole Miss begins practice on Sunday.

Masoli needs a place to play, and Mississippi needs a quarterback.

The San Francisco native was booted from the Oregon team after being charged with the theft in January (he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor second-degree burglary) and then for possession of a small amount of marijuana and driving on a suspended license during a traffic stop in the spring.
