The St. Petersburg Times reports the 21-year-old Gillies was arrested by Pinellas County (Fla.) Sheriff's officers at 1:10 a.m. Friday and released at 10:52 a.m. on $2,000 bond. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Gillies was arrested at a hotel about a mile from the Phillies' complex in Clearwater, Fla.
The team issued the following statement Friday morning:
"The Phillies have confirmed that Tyson Gillies was charged today on a drug possession charge arising out of an incident that was alleged to have occurred in June. Because this is an open case, we will not comment further at this time."
