Close call: Cards' Fitzgerald says MRI shows only sprained knee
Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald said a precautionary MRI confirmed Sunday that he only has a sprained right knee, according to The Arizona Republic. Fitzgerald told the newspaper that he'll be conservative about playing on the knee for a few weeks, echoing what his coach, Ken Whisenhunt, said after Saturday night's preseason opener. Fitzgerald, a four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, left the home game against the Houston Texans during the first quarter after he took a shot on a 16-yard reception. Fitzgerald stayed in the locker room for a while, but he returned to the Cardinals' sideline in the second half. "I'm fine. I'm fine," Fitzgerald said after the game, according to the Cardinals' official Web site. "I was able to finish the drive. I could have continued to play, but they pulled the plug on me." Whisenhunt didn't seem too concerned after the game. "We'll get him checked out," the coach said. "He was walking around the locker room (after the game). He's a little stiff, which you would anticipate, but we will be conservative in our approach because I don't think we need to find out about Larry in the preseason."
