Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf never doubted that quarterback Brett Favre would return this season, he told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Wilf is adamant that money had little to do with Favre's decision to return for a 20th NFL season. Wilf and Vikings coach Brad Childress were confident that Favre had too much fun in 2009 and wanted another shot at the Super Bowl after last season's heartbreaking 31-28 overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship Game. The owner refused to give specific details about Favre's revised 2010 contract, which could net the quarterback up to $28 million, according to NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora. Wilf told the Star Tribune that Vikings vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski handles all team salary negotiations and that he didn't recently discuss money with Favre. Wilf was quick to sing the praises of players Steve Hutchinson, Ryan Longwell and Jared Allen, who flew to Favre's home in Hattiesburg, Miss., last week and urged the quarterback to immediately rejoin the Vikings. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
