Kevin Klein leads Predators past Red Wings

But Sunday afternoon, No. 8 Klein made an Orr-like move to score a memorable second-period goal to key the Nashville Predators to a 3-2 win that gives Nashville a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinal.

Klein, who has 13 goals in 310 NHL games, made a slick bob and weave around defenseman Brad Stuart inside the blue line and then skated in and beat goalie Jimmy Howard.

Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne made 41 saves for the Predators, who regain home-ice advantage.

The Predators had claimed a 1-0 lead at 2:48 of the first period when Shea Weber scored a power-play goal from near the crease after Howard had stopped Andrei Kostitsyn's shot. The Red Wings were short because Drew Miller was in the penalty box for goalie interference.

Before that goal, the Red Wings had stopped Nashville's first 12 power-play attempts. They had killed 37 consecutive power-play chances dating to the regular season.

After Klein scored, the Predators held their two-goal lead until Pavel Datsyuk swiped a puck from Nashville defenseman Roman Josi behind the Predators' net and then stuffed it into the net before Rinne could react at 15:03.

The Red Wings appeared to tie the game when Johan Franzen scored near the end of the second period. But replays showed conclusively that time had expired.

In the third period, Klein, who sports a Mohawk haircut, made a stellar defensive play, getting his stick on a Cory Emmerton rebound attempt that appeared destined for the net.

With the Red Wings pressing for a tying goal, Niklas Kronwall got caught up ice and Sergei Kostitsyn scored on a two-on-one break to make it a 3-1 game. Klein added an assist.

With 53.1 seconds left, Henrik Zetterberg scored a power-play goal to make it 3-2.
