Filed under: Arizona, IowaTUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona got plenty of help from Iowa in the first half, and used defensive and special teams touchdowns to get out to what seemed like an insurmountable 20-point lead at the break. But it returned the favor in the second half, and the Hawkeyes were able to get a special teams turnover and a defensive touchdown of their own to come all the way back to tie it, before the Wildcats delivered the knockout punch to come away with a thrilling 34-27 victory in Tucson.
Wildcats quarterback Nick Foles hit William Wright for a four-yard touchdown with 3:57 remaining to break the 27-all tie, one that Iowa had fought hard to get to after trailing 27-7 at the half.
Arizona got off to a fast start, thanks to Iowa having a punt blocked deep in its own territory after going three and out on the game's first possession. The Wildcats were able to convert the turnover into a 7-0 lead on a five-yard touchdown pass from Nick Foles to David Douglas.
The Hawkeyes looked poised to answer on the next possession, and drove the ball 59 yards on six plays to the Arizona 21-yard line. But Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi threw a pass to the left side of the field that was tipped and intercepted by Trevin Wade, who went untouched as he returned it 85 yards for a touchdown.
