Everybody knows that the Steinbrenners are selling the Yankees. Everyone except the Steinbrenners of course.
It the classic confrontation of "they wrote, he said."
The New York Daily News, citing multiple sources, said the family was interested in selling the team in the wake of billion dollar sale of the Dodgers.
The sources say that Hank and Hal Steinbrenner either have waning interest in the team or abhor the money needed to field a team.
All of this is news to Hal Steinbrenner who put out a statement earlier today:
"I just learned of the Daily News story. It is pure fiction. The Yankees are not for sale. I expect that the Yankees will be in my family for many years to come."
Major League Baseball also put out a statement: "Major League Baseball has received no indications from any representatives of the New York Yankees or anyone else that the Club is for sale."
