Journell's future at Virginia Tech up to AD Weaver

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Suspended Virginia Tech placekicker Cody Journell's future with the Hokies is in the hands of athletic director Jim Weaver.

Journell pleaded guilty to misdemeanor trespassing charges Monday in Montgomery County General District Court. He was sentenced to a year in jail, with all but 10 days suspended, and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.

Journell has been suspended from the team since late December, when he was charged with felony breaking and entering.

Weaver says he met with Journell and his family Tuesday. The school's policy stipulates that Weaver review the situation and determine Journell's future with the Hokies. Weaver says he plans to meet with the kicker monthly to review how he is meeting the terms of his sentencing.
