Live blog: Devils beat Rangers 4-1 in Game 4

NEWARK - The New Jersey Devils beat the New York Rangers 4-1 Monday to tie up the Eastern Conference final. How the game went:

10:40: Game over. 4-1 Devils. Series is tied 2-2. Doesn't this series feel like it will go seven games?

10:39: Martin Brodeur makes a couple back-to-back saves. 10 seconds left.

10:37: Martin Brodeur picks up an assist on the empty-netter. That's his fourth assist of the playoffs. Bryce Salvador picks up his second point of the game.

10:36: Devils go up 4-1 on Zach Parise's empty-netter. His second goal and third point of the game.

10:34: Rangers pull Henrik Lundqvist with more than two minutes left.

10:28: Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto gets first full shift of the third period. Draws an assist on Ruslan Fedotenko's goal. 3-1 Devils.

10:26: Power play. No shots for Devils.

10:22: And just as we say that, Carl Hagelin goes back to the penalty box.

10:22: Rangers back at full strength.

10:21: 5-0n-3 is over, but Henrik Lundqvist has to make back-to-back saves on Dainius Zubrus and David Clarkson.

10:18: Carl Hagelin goes to the penalty box. Devils on a 5-on-3 power play.

10:14: Mike Rupp gets four minutes and a misconduct. Zach Parise and Stu Bickel get roughing minors. Michael Del Zotto comes off the bench to serve one of the minor penalties.

10:10: Game getting intense. After Mike Rupp shoves Martin Brodeur, coaches John Tortorella and Peter DeBoer start screaming at the bench.

10:06: Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto has played only one shift since his struggle-filled first period. One in the second period. None so far in the third.

10:03: Devils score right off the first faceoff. Henrik Lundqvist stops Ilya Kovalchuk's point shot and Zach Parise puts in the rebound. 3-0 Devils.

10:03: Devils go on the power play. Derek Stepan for high-sticking.

10:02: The great Russian defenseman and former Devil Slava Fetisov is in the house. He gets a big hand from the crowd.

10:00: Rangers pin the Devils in their zone for about a minute. No serious threat.

9:58: Third period is under way. The Rangers have outscored the Devils 6-1 in the third period over the first three games of the series.

9:45: Rangers have only six blocked shots in this game, same number as the Devils.

9:40: Second period ends with a little bit of shoving. 2-0 Devils. Board shows shots are 21-18 New Jersey.

9:38: At Madison Square Garden, the video cam shows celebrities. At Prudential Center, the video cam shows former Devils players.

9:35: Former Devil Grant Marshall is in attendance.

9:33: Martin Brodeur makes a glove save on Anton Stralman.

9:30: Ilya Kovalchuk and Ryan Callahan trade jabs, including a Kovalchuk stick to Callahan's midsection. Both are in the box. Action is heating up.

9:26: Former Devil Jim Dowd is in the house.

9:25: Stu Bickel is back in his defensive position. He started at forward.

9:24: Rangers coach John Tortorella tells NBC's Pierre McGuire about his team's second-period play: "We have the puck more. We didn't have the puck in the first period."

9:19: Martin Brodeur makes a big glove save on Marian Gaborik at 9:31 of the second period.

9:10: Former Devils player Bruce Driver is here watching the game.

9:05: Power play over.

9:04: Second period under way. Rangers have 20 seconds of power play time left.

9:02: Jacob Josefson, inserted into the Devils lineup, played 3:17, lowest among New Jersey players. Stu Bickel's time, as suspended Brandon Prust's replacement, was two minutes even.

8:47: First period over. 2-0 Devils. They lead in shots 12-7. If you hadn't been watching the NHL in the regular season and watched that period, you would have believed that New Jersey was the higher seed.

8:46: Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi stops Zach Parise driving to the net on a short-handed chance.

8:44: Big New York forward Mike Rupp drives the net, and he's pulled down by Anton Volchenkov for a two-minute penalty at 18:20.

8:42: Penalty is over. Devils hold a 12-3 edge in shots.

8:39: Devils on the power play. Brian Boyle is called for holding.

8:35: With the Devils in charge offensively, New York coach John Tortorella can't be pleased that ace defenseman Ryan McDonagh is in the penalty box for five minutes for fighting.

8:32: Travis Zajac scores at 11:59 on perfect set-up by Zach Parise to make it 2-0 Devils. I'm guessing Parise will be talking tonight. The Devils captain didn't talk to the media after New Jersey's Game 3. Parise blew past Michael Del Zotto before making the pass.

8:30: New York took its first shot just after the 10 minute mark. New Jersey has a 7-1 lead in shots.

8:28: The game is more than 10 minutes old, and the Rangers don't have a shot. The Devils own the puck.

8:26: Ryan McDonagh and Adam Henrique each receive five for fighting.

8:23: Bryce Salvador scores with a wrist shot from the blue line to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead. Jacob Josefson is plus-one

8:17: Jacob Josefson's shift was a good one, plenty of pressure put on Henrik Lundqvist

8:13: Ilya Kovalchuk is playing with Adam Henrique and Patrik Elias.

8:10: Game is under way.

8:02: Stu Bickel is officially the replacement for suspended Rangers forward Brandon Prust. The defenseman has played forward in one other game this season.

7:50: Give New Jersey coach Peter DeBoer credit for fortitude for replacing Petr Sykora with Jakob Josefson. Although Sykora hasn't played well, Josefson hasn't played a single NHL playoff game. Sykora has played 130. Josefson hasn't played in more than seven weeks because of a broken wrist.
