We're live-blogging Game 5 of the Western Conference. The Los Angeles Kings, visiting the Phoenix Coyotes, can clinch a berth in the Stanley Cup Finals with a win.
10:48: Second period over. Score is 3-3. Shots are 26-19 for the Kings.
10:45: That goal was big for the Coyotes because the Kings are outshooting them 2-1 in the second period.
10:40: This is the first time that Kings goalie Jonathan Quick has allowed three goals in a game since the first round.
10:39: Goals coming fast and furious. Coyotes tie it up when a centering pass by Taylor Pyatt bounces in off the shin pad of a pinching Keith Yandle.
10:35: Kings take the lead 3-2. Jeff Carter passes to Dustin Penner, whose backhander leaves a big rebound. Mike Richards puts it in - and a second time for good measure. Big effort by that line.
10:35: Good glove save by Mike Smith on Jeff Carter.
10:34: Mike Smith makes save of Jeff Carter. Can't control the rebound and Mike Richards get a whack at the puck. Smith saves that, too.
10:29: Colin Fraser and Justin Williams get the assists.
10:28: Drew Doughty ties it up with a wrist shot from the point. 2-2 with 8:54 left in the second period. That's two points for Doughty tonight.
10:24: Radim Vrbata puts the puck over a wide-open net.
10:22: "Beat LA" chants start.
10:20: Rostislav Klesla and Kyle Chipchura get the assists.
10:19: Coyotes go up 2-1. Marc-Antoine Pouliot back-hander from in front. It's his first career playoff goal.
10:15: Shots are 5-2 for the Kings in this period, 11-11 overall.
10:13: Radim Vrbata hits the post.
10:12: Penalty is over.
10:11: Drew Doughty shot hits Mike Smith in the mask. That's the second time the goalie has been hit there.
10:08: Second period is under way. Kings have nearly a full two minutes of power play remaining.
9:51: First period is over. Score is 1-1. Shots are 9-6 Coyotes. They had been 7-1 Coyotes at one point.
9:50: The Kings get a late penalty. Derek Morris hauls down Jeff Carter with four seconds left in the period.
9:46: Kings kill off the penalty and get a dangerous end in the Phoenix end.
9:43: Coyotes back on the power play. Slava Voynov hooks Shane Doan.
9:42: Dustin Brown's shot goes off the mask of Mike Smith.
9:37: Scoring change is announced on the Phoenix goal. They now give it to Taylor Pyatt. That's his fourth goal of the playoffs.
9:33: Wow, another short-handed goal for the Kings. LA gets a faceoff in the Coyotes' zone after an icing call. Anze Kopitar tips in a Drew Doughty shot to tie the game 1-1. It's the fifth short-handed goal of the postseason for the Kings.
9:30: The Coyotes are back on the power play. Too many men on the ice for the Kings.
9:29: Halfway through the period, the Kings have one shot.
9:19: The assist ends a seven-point drought for Radim Vrbata.
9:18: Coyotes go up 1-0. Martin Hanzal is set up for a perfect one-time by Radim Vrbata at 4:19.
9:15: Coyotes are on the power play. Drew Doughty for delay of game.
9:11: Game is under way
8:55: The Coyotes said that defenseman Adrian Aucoin would be a game-time decision and he was not in the warmups or lineup. Aucoin, hurt in the final game of the last round, played only in Game 4 and left that one early.
8:52: It was 105 degrees outside in Glendale, Ariz., at game time, though it feels like 98. "It's a dry heat," coach Dave Tippett joked after the morning skate.
