Filed under: U.S. OpenNEW YORK -- Caroline Wozniacki has made a mockery of the first three rounds of the U.S. Open. The top-seeded Wozniacki defeated Chan Yung-Jan 6-1, 6-0 in their third round match on Saturday afternoon.
"I think it says something about the level that I'm playing at," a very confident Wozniacki said of her third consecutive blowout at this tournament.
That was one more game she lost than in her double-bagel victory over Kai-Chen Chan in the second round and one game less than she lost in her 6-1, 6-1 blowout of Chelsey Gullickson to open the tournament. Wozniacki had won her only two previous matches against the 77th-ranked Chan, but lost a set to her in their first meeting in 2008 in Doha. Saturday's showdown at the Open was a non-competitive event, lasting just 73 minutes.
Chan committed 31 unforced errors to just 11 by Wozniacki. Unlike fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic, knocked out of the tournament earlier in the day, Wozniacki was not challenged by the windy conditions at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
