Mark Sanchez Takes on Joe Namath Over Jets' Offense

Filed under: Jets, NFL QuarterbacksAmidst a barrage of criticism, Mark Sanchez has defended his team against one notable critic, taking exception to comments New York Jets great Joe Namath made about the New York offense following the Jets' 10-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens Monday night.

Namath tweeted following the game that the Jets' offense, which managed just six first downs, was too conservative, to which Sanchez said to The New York Post, "Joe likes to sling it because that's kind of the offense they had back then. But we have a great running game, and we would never want to abandon that."

During the game, the Post reported that Namath, who never called out Sanchez by name, instead criticized head coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, saying "We need more offense." Namath also wrote that the Jets were "playing with a conservative play calling style, which falls on the shoulders of the coaches."
