Filed under: Arizona Cardinals, Rams, NFL Quarterbacks, NFL AnalysisST. LOUIS -- Fourth-and-goal from the Arizona 1 with five seconds left in the first half. The St. Louis Rams and their $80 million rookie quarterback trailed the Cardinals by a touchdown. Points and momentum were there for the taking. It was a matter of how much the Rams were willing to put on Sam Bradford's shoulders.
Apparently, quite a bit.
Out of a timeout, out came Bradford. Did the Rams make things easy and ask warhorse back Steven Jackson to do the heavy lifting? Nope. Bradford play-faked to Jackson, rolled to his right and, under pressure, slipped a touch pass through the defense and into the hands of wide receiver Laurent Robinson in the back of the end zone for the touchdown.
The craziest Edward Jones Dome crowd in several seasons cheered wildly.
Bradford pumped his fists like Tiger Woods used to.
Welcome to the altogether new era of Rams football. Some are calling it "Sam's Club," because now the franchise wears the face of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft and former Oklahoma Heisman Trophy winner.
Kevin Demoff, Rams executive vice president of football operations and COO, put it rather plainly.
"He gives us a chance," Demoff said.
