Jay Cutler Leaves Game With Concussion After 9 First-Half Sacks

Filed under: Chicago Bears, GiantsEAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was sacked nine times by the Giants in the first half of Sunday night's game and did not return for the second half. The team announced that Cutler had suffered a concussion, and Todd Collins took over as quarterback for Chicago with the team trailing just 3-0 -- in spite of one of the worst offensive first halves in the history of the game. Chicago lost the game, 17-3.

The Bears mustered 22 total yards on 27 offensive plays in the first half, mainly because one-third of those plays resulted in a Giants sack of Cutler. Somehow, Cutler was 8 of 11 for 42 yards passing, but he lost 55 yards on the nine sacks, so the Bears' 35 rushing yards got them back -- barely -- into positive territory for total yards. Chicago was 0-for-7 on third downs, lost one fumble and Cutler also threw one interception.
