The first go-round in 2009 went swell -- division champs, NFC title game, a Super Bowl sniff. Rather than move forward this season without Favre and build their team, groom their team from within with the quarterback they drafted four years ago to do just that -- Tarvaris Jackson -- the Vikings begged Favre back. It was not a unanimous Vikings management decision. But it was the final one.
Now the Vikings are 1-3, Favre has a bum throwing elbow and the sexting scandal in which he is embroiled has pushed the entire franchise on edge.
Vikings management sees two clear results:
Jenn Sterger, who is at the center of the Favre scandal, decides, as one Vikings source described it, "she wants a professional journalism career rather than becoming known as a Hollywood starlet.'' She refuses to cooperate with the league. Favre reaches a settlement that includes confidentiality. It's over.
