Trevor Roberts, a football player for McLouth High School in Kansas, had part of his left leg amputated after breaking it in a game. Roberts suffered an injury Sept. 24 against Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire.
Roberts suffered a compound fracture in his lower left leg. Complications from the injury required doctors to amputate Roberts' leg just above the knee last week. After having a rod inserted in the leg, doctors noticed gangrene.
Jerrad Humerickhouse, who is Roberts' guardian, said Roberts was doing well after a third surgery.
"Everything's looking really good right now," Humerickhouse said. "The doctors are really pleased with the progress."
