Tom Daugherty Rolls on After Rolling Worst Game in Televised PBA History

Everyone has bad days. Most of our bad days aren't nationally televised. Tom Daugherty's was.

Daugherty is a 35-year-old professional bowler from suburban Tampa, Fla. This past week he bowled 72 games to advance to the semifinals of the Pro Bowlers Association Tournament of Champions. In 72 games, Daugherty broke 200 in all but nine games and his low score was 167.

That performance left Daugherty on television for a chance to snag the championship. Only, bowling hell broke loose. Daugherty didn't just lose, he set a record for the worst score in the history of televised Professional Bowling Association events with a, wait for it, 100.

Yep, a pro bowler clocked a 100. Think that's bad? Daugherty's opponent put up a 299, one pin shy of perfection. Daugherty, a married father of two, who began bowling at the age of 3, first broke 200 when he was 7, and bowled his first perfect game at the age of 11 -- he's since had nine more perfect games as a professional and 65 in league play -- is still coming to grips with the degree of his imperfection. Especially since for the previous 72 games, he'd been the high average in the tournament, the most lucrative in PBA history with $250,000 to the winner. Then ... disaster.
