Armando Galarraga, Tigers to Part Ways

Armando GalarragaMr. Almost Perfect will almost certainly be with another major league team in 2011. The Tigers designated for assignment pitcher Armando Galarraga Tuesday, hours after avoiding arbitration and agreeing to a $2.3 million deal with the right-hander.

Galarraga, who gained national notoriety last June when he had a perfect game taken away by umpire Jim Joyce's blown call in the ninth inning, was a roster casualty as Detroit finalized a separate one-year deal with veteran starter Brad Penny.

Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski told reporters he is planning to trade Galarraga, and he doesn't expect he'll have too much trouble finding a taker.

"There are clubs looking for starters right now," Dombrowski said. "If we can find him a home in a rotation somewhere, that's what we'll be trying to do."
