While the NFL Players Association is lobbying hard for the four players suspended by the Roger Goodell for their alleged involvement in the New Orleans Saints bounty system, Pro Bowl receiver Larry Fitzgerald says he thinks the league did the right thing, according to ProFootballTalk.
Fitzgerald told the Rich Eisen Podcast that he felt the league had to do something:
?I?ve knownJonathan Vilmafor a very long time, andWill Smithactually hosted me on my visit to Ohio State in college,? Fitzgerald said. ?So I?ve known these guys for a really long time and they?re not bad men by any stretch of the imagination. I feel bad that they?re losing game checks and losing the opportunity to make a living. But I think Roger Goodell, our commissioner, had to do something to let everybody know that this is not going to be tolerated, and moving forward this is not something that?s going to be acceptable.?
Vilma was suspended one year for his alleged role in the bounty system. Defensive tackle Anthony Hargrove was given an eight game suspension for his participation, while Will Smith was suspended for four games, and Scott Fujita was suspended for three contests.
On the coaching side, defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has been suspendedindefinitely for organizing the bounty system. Saints head coach Sean Payton was been suspended the entire year, and assistant coach Joe Vittwas suspended for the season?s first six games.
