Filed under: NFLNEW YORK -- On Monday morning the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced its preliminary list of nominees for the Class of 2011. The list of 113 modern-era nominees is highlighted by running backs Jerome Bettis, Curtis Martin and Marshall Faulk, along with two-sport standout Deion Sanders.
At first glance you can make the case for all three running backs getting into the Hall of Fame in this first pass through. Warren Moon, a member of the Class of 2006, however, feels that the voters will likely spread out the position distribution, allowing for some equally deserving players on both sides of the ball to enter football's most hallowed hall. Moon mentions Richard Dent, Charles Haley, Cris Carter and Andre Reed as other deserving nominees on this year's list. Thus, beginning the ultimate football debate. If you had to pare down a list of 113 eligible players to 4-7 new members of the Hall, who would you choose?
As part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's attempt to wrangle the fans into the discussion, they have for the second year in a row partnered with Van Heusen to open up the voting to football fans online, via the website FansChoice.com.
