Eric LeGrand Has Movement in Shoulders, Full Sensation in Body

Filed under:

Eric LeGrand's recovery from paralysis has taken a positive development, as the school announced Thursday that he has movement in his shoulders and "full sensation" throughout his body.

In December, the school announced that LeGrand had feeling his hands, but experts said that development was not necessarily a "meaningful update" with regard to his recovery.

LeGrand was paralyzed in an Oct. 16 game against Army making a tackle covering a kickoff. He had surgery to stabilize his spine and has been rehabilitating since. In November, the injury was reclassified from "complete" to "incomplete," a diagnosis that gave LeGrand a better chance at recovery.

LeGrand granted his first interview since the injury to ESPN, saying that he felt he "could pass out and die" lying on the turf after the injury. That interview will air on "SportsCenter" on Friday, and will be posted in full on Rutgers' website afterward.
