Filed under: Packers, NFL Training CampGREEN BAY, Wisc. -- Every time he walks into the locker room at Lambeau Field, Brad Jones is met with legacy and tradition.
This is where some of the greatest linebackers to ever play the game came from, including Hall of Famer Ray Nitschke, Lee Roy Caffey, John Anderson, Dave Robinson, Bob Flowers, Fred Carr and Brian Noble, among others.
And even though he's only in his second season as a pro, Jones, the former University of Colorado standout, knows the kind of reputation he must live up to as one of the guys that wears the Packers' green and gold.
"My goal is the same goal I have every year: to be one of the great and best outside linebackers in the game," Jones said after practice Monday.
At 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, some might say the Lansing, Mich., native needs to at some weight to excel at linebacker. But what he lacks in bulk, he more than makes up for with speed from the left outside LB position.
A seventh-round pick in the 2009 draft, Jones not only stuck with the Packers after last year's training camp and preseason, he became a bright spot for head coach Mike McCarthy and his staff to look forward to in 2010 and beyond.
"Brad Jones missed some time earlier in camp, but he was one of the standout players in the scrimmage Saturday night," McCarthy said. "I like what he's doing both on defense and on the special teams."Paul Tagliabue
