Mariano Rivera will remain the Yankees' closer for two more seasons -- at least. The legendary reliever will sign a two-year deal believed to be worth $30 million Friday, the New York Daily News reported Thursday night. That will be the first big-ticket item checked off on the Yankees' winter to-do list, and in much more low-key fashion than the Bombers' negotiations with Derek Jeter.
Rivera's agent, Fern Cuza, told the Daily News earlier Thursday that some work remained to finish off a deal with the Yankees, but when another team jumped in with an offer of three years at perhaps $17 million per, the Yankees quickly wrapped up a deal.
"He wanted to stay loyal to the Yankees," a source told the Daily News.
