Or maybe the Ravens would have reached down deeply enough to find their own resolve and focus, rediscover what made them a popular Super Bowl pick in the first place and channel it into a statement victory, 30-24 over the streaking Saints, in a game with postseason implications played with postseason intensity.
However, as Ravens cornerback Chris Carr pointed out late Sunday afternoon, "It was one of those things you might think about, but you need somebody else to articulate it and put it into perspective.''
Ironically, the last two weeks in Baltimore has been one big group therapy session, what with the players and the fans working out their feelings about losing at home to the Steelers after leading in the final minutes, then barely surviving a collapse in Houston last Monday night. The players and coaches were the ones preaching "perspective'' -- hello, 9-4 record, near-unshakable playoff position, the AFC North title not decided yet, still a better-than-most defense and offense despite the lapses, coordinators not a couple of panhandlers hired off the street.
