On the list of difficult things to imagine, few rank higher than Mariano Rivera trotting in from the home bullpen at Fenway Park to face the Yankees while "Enter Sandman" blasts out into the Boston night.According to Rivera, there was a very real chance of that happening this offseason. When Rivera signed with the Yankees, we all heard that there was an offer on the table from the Sox. We subsequently heard that Rivera himself initiated talks with the team he's pitched against in big games his entire career, something Rivera denied, but it seems that it doesn't really matter who made the first call. Rivera said Thursday that there was interest on both sides.
"It was real. It was real," Rivera said.
It wasn't real enough to develop into a serious negotiation between the two sides and Rivera made it clear that he had no desire to leave the Yankees for another team.
