The blue pickup truck was supposed to carry mother and son to a new life in Georgia and away from their struggles in Texas. Yet, life through the windshield for Lisa Hunter and Courtney Hunter looked worse than what they had left behind in the rear-view mirror.
It was late August, and the blue pickup was partially hidden from view near the football field at Booker T. Washington High in Atlanta. Clothes and personal items were crammed in the extra space behind the main seat. While a few people were aware of the temporary arrangement, word began to spread among the football players.
The Hunters -- not to mention their team captain and two-way starter on the line -- were homeless.
