JayVaughn Pinkston, the highly-touted Villanova freshman forward, is suspended for the remainder of his freshman season after an assault charge from early November. He is also suspended from the school for the spring semester and cannot take classes during that time. But because it's a team-imposed penalty and not one from the NCAA, Pinkston retains his eligibility. He will be able to return to the team in June as a redshirt freshman.
Pinkston has yet to play this season, because the school held him out of games until it reviewed the case.
In a statement released by the school, Pinkston apologized for his part in the incident and said he's learned from the situation.
"I am sorry," Pinkston said in the statement. "This situation is my responsibility and I have learned from it. I am going to work extremely hard so that I can return to the Villanova family in June."
The former McDonald's All-American was charged with two counts each of simple assault and harrassment after sending two people to the hospital at a Villanova frat party. Pinkston was reportedly angry after he was locked inside a laundry room at the fraternity house during what the report labeled a "romantic encounter with a girl."
