Celtics Repeat the Formula to Beat Heat

Dwyane Wade and Paul PierceMIAMI -- The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics squared off Thursday in a rematch of the NBA's first game of the season, but this wasn't a case where the sequel was worse than the original. However, it did appear that the basketball gods recycled the script.

Once again, the Heat started off cold from the field early as their offense looked out of sync while the Celtics raced out to the early lead. Dwyane Wade again had a nightmare of a game while LeBron James surpassed 30 points to lead a furious second-half rally that ultimately fell short. The 112-107 loss drops Miami to 5-4 on the season -- and third place in the Southeast Division -- while Boston improved to 7-2.

Looking at both of these games, the Heat haven't seemed to progress much from Game No. 1 to Game No. 9. Joel Anthony and Carlos Arroyo again proved ineffective among the starters while their replacements Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Eddie House fared better. Simply put, there just wasn't enough support for James aside from Chris Bosh and Udonis Haslem, while the Celtics enjoyed a balanced attack from their Big 3 of Kevin Garnett (16 points, 13 rebounds), Paul Pierce (25 points) and the ageless Ray Allen (35 points, with 7 of 9 shooting from three-point land). Boston's starters outscored their counterparts 89 to 62.
