There are few college football teams in the country that have more to be thankful for this Thanksgiving than Southern Miss. Two weeks ago, three of its football players were involved in a shooting outside of a nightclub and all three survived. On Wednesday, coach Larry Fedora announced that Deddrick Jones (right), who had been shot in the chest, was back at home in Bastrop, La., resting comfortably, and Tim Green, who had a bullet sever his vocal cords, was eating and began speaking normally. He was also discharged from the hospital.
"Today when I was in there, you wouldn't know there was anything wrong with (Green)," Fedora said in an interview with FanHouse on Wednesday. "Doctors hadn't said one way or the other (whether Green would regain his voice) because they had no way of knowing what the damage was going do. He had the trach tube in and they felt like it would be a matter of time, but they didn't know how it was going to affect it."
And Martez Smith, who had a bullet sever his spinal cord, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down, has been released from the hospital and was headed to a rehab facility in Jackson, Miss.
