Jose Guillen was left off the San Francisco Giants playoff roster in September after the team was reportedly alerted by Major League Baseball to a federal investigation involving the outfielder and shipments of human growth hormone sent to his wife. Now the details of the investigation are becoming more clear.Guillen allegedly made plans to acquire close to 50 pre-loaded syringes of HGH that would be sent to his San Francisco address in September, according to the Daily News. Citing a source close to the investigation, the paper reports that Drug Enforcement Administration agents intercepted a package that was sent from the suspected supplier to Guillen's wife.
This is not the first time Guillen has been linked to performance-enhancing drugs. He was set for a 15-game suspension to start the 2008 season, but was let off the hook when commissioner Bud Selig granted players amnesty for "past acts" when the Mitchell Report was released.
