NFL Picks Week 12: Saints-Cowboys Provides Some Turkey Day Entertainment

Saints vs. Cowboys Week 12 NFL PicksBecause Detroit has been weak for a decade and because the NFL keeps sending dogs to Dallas, the Thanksgiving Day schedule is normally laden with one-sided games, although the arrival of the NFL Network's night games has provided a little entertainment for those who aren't shut out by a cable company that doesn't carry the league's offering.

This year, however, we get New Orleans at Dallas, which thanks to the Cowboys' two straight wins under Jason Garrett and the Saints' surge, figures to distract some people from the turkey.

Maybe.

To start with, the oddsmakers don't think as much of Garrett and his reborn Cowboys as they do of the Saints, who seem to have overcome their post-Super Bowl lethargy (and the injuries that went with it). They've made the Saints 3 1/2-point favorites, which factoring in home field, means they're six points better than Dallas.

Actually, they probably are six points better than Dallas -- maybe more so. Remember that Jon Kitna is still the quarterback for the Cowboys. Remember that the new-coach factor diminishes with each game. And remember that there are holes in the Cowboys' secondary.
