Triple H, Shawn Michaels Don't Think Goldberg Is Hall of Fame Worthy

Filed under:

Bill GoldbergWWE superstars Triple H and Shawn Michaels have been in Atlanta the past few days promoting WrestleMania 27 since tickets are on-sale for the event that the city will host in April.

As part of an online interview, the duo was asked about he possibility of former WCW World Champion Bill Goldberg being a part of the show or at least going into the Hall of Fame.

Both were down on that idea.

"Bill's trying to get into the Hall of Fame," Triple H said. "If there's a rumor about him coming back, he probably started it. I've not seen any mention of his name."

He then took another step to explain exactly why he wouldn't endorse Goldberg.

"We call a guy to honor him in the Hall of Fame, and he goes, 'I want to do an angle. I want a one-off. I need a hundred grand.' So when you say, 'What about Goldberg?', no offense to Bill, but you've got guys like Bruno Samartino that were legends with longevity that should be in there, but they're holding out because they think they've got one more run. Just using Bill as an example, how many years did he wrestle? Not many."

Michaels was on the same page as his former DX cohort.

"To me, he's not even in the ballpark. Not because he's not talented, but greatness doesn't happen in a few years. Greatness is established over a long period of time. We try to promote people and get them over, but you can't do it that quickly. In our line of work, there are other qualities that make somebody viable besides just whether they're tough or not."

There's been lots of rumors than the WWE would be interesting in having Goldberg as part of the festivities, either going into the Hall of Fame or possibly returning for a match at WrestleMania 27.

Sure, Goldberg was a huge star but only for a short time. I would agree that he's probably not Hall of Fame worthy but at the same time, you can make an argument that others who never rose to the level of Goldberg already have been honored.

So, it wouldn't be the worst injustice if Goldberg ended up going in. That said, WWE does need to put in others like Bruno Sammartino (although he has said he won't show up for the induction), Lou Thesz and Danny Hodge who are more than deserving.
