Former world champ Shane Mosley dropped his long-running, multimillion dollar defamation lawsuit against Bay Area Lab Co-Operative (BALCO) founder Victor Conte. The move, which came quietly via a motion in the Supreme Court of New York last week, was announced by Conte Tuesday night in an e-mail to FanHouse.
"The $12 million dollar defamation lawsuit filed against me in 2008 by Shane Mosley has finally been voluntarily dismissed. I look forward to more productive endeavors," Conte said.
The lawsuit was filed after Conte talked to reporters from the New York Daily News, USA TODAY and Sports Illustrated in March 2008. In the interviews, Conte described how he instructed Mosley how to inject himself with endurance-boosting EPO, and provided "the cream" and "the clear" -- items Mosley allegedly paid for, in part, with a personal check after a meeting at BALCO's headquarters in Burlingame, Calif. in 2003.
Mosley immediately denied that he intentionally used any illegal substances, although YouTube videos of his deposition in the case appear to show otherwise.
