Maria Espinoza Charged in Fatal Crash That Injured Charlie Davies

Maria Espinoza, the driver in last year's car crash that injured U.S. national team forward Charlie Davies and killed her friend, was charged this week with involuntary manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, according to a charging document obtained by FanHouse.

Espinoza is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va., on Tuesday, when she is expected to enter a guilty plea to the two felony counts, according to court documents. She is not currently in custody.

The charges are federal because the accident occurred on land under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Park Police.

Espinoza was not seriously injured in the early-morning wreck
on the George Washington Parkway in Arlington, Va., on Oct. 13, 2009. Ashley Roberta, 22, was killed and Davies (photo) was critically injured. The injuries, which included several broken bones and a lacerated kidney, kept Davies off the team that played in last summer's World Cup.
